What is Yoga?
Yoga is literally defined as the "union of the mind, body, and spirit." The meditation of
yoga stimulates and calms the mind, allowing it to rest. The postures improve muscle tone,
flexibility, strength and stamina. The breathing releases stress and anxiety and quiets the
mind. By uniting these three elements, your body works more efficiently and helps you attain
a higher level of consciousness.
Even if you are not into the spiritual side of yoga, yoga is still for you. Research shows that yoga helps to control anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, blood pressure, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, diabetes, epilepsy, headaches, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and more. "Yoga is the ultimate multitasking; you get to workout, stretch, breathe, meditate and reduce stress, all in an hour and a half," claims Holly Briscoe, Oxygen Instructor.
